Summer Program 2025-- Week 1 June 23 - June 27 - Wicked Cool Vet School
Lancaster Recreations Summer Program Series! 9- weeks running from June 23, 2025 - August 22, 2025Full-Day and Half-Day options available most weeks.Early Drop-off & Extended Day options available!Summer programs provide kids with opportunities to learn, grow, and engage in activities they might not experience during the school year. Whether through sports, arts, technology, or outdoor adventures, these programs can help children build new skills, make friends, and stay active. They also offer a chance to explore interests in a fun and supportive environment. Early arrival will start 1 hour before the program starts and extended day is 1 hour after the program ends for an additional cost, $40 per week for either early arrival OR extended day or BOTH for $75 per week.All programs will be held at the Lancaster Community Center- programs will be outside, in the gym or meeting room at the center. Wicked Cool Vet School-- Are you dreaming of becoming a superstar veterinarian?Grab your lab coat, animal adventurers, and prepare to meet your (stuffed) animal patient. Learn to recognize vital signs and emergencies in animals. Delve into dog digestion and investigate animal intestines from our favorite vertebrates:birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Cap off the week by using your knowledge of vertebrates to create your own new animal! Kids will get their own Veterinarian Starter Kit Kiwi Crate to explore animal x-rays to find animal bone fractures, and dig deeper into animal anatomy. Next, kids can engage in free-choice STEAM activities related to all things from the wide world of animals - including animal arts and crafts as well as engineering activities.Live Action & Mario Flix-Full-Day: Discover your film making talents! You don’t have to be an actor to take part, as we'll guide you through the Hollywood process to create, direct, film, act, and more. We'll also examine and investigate super sticky things by exploring suction, hydrogen bonding and static cling. We'll also see some very cool dry ice demonstrations! Continue the science at home with fun labware take-homes and experiments. Then take a journey to the farthest reaches of the imagination while learning about the ocean, the rainforest, Mars, and a futuristic city, and more! Use the design thinking process to solve real-world problems in these different environments. Experiment with Crayola products and many art techniques like sculpting, storyboarding, collage, and mix media. Each participant will receive a Skyhawks award & T-shirt.
